Each structure to be sculpted is selected for it's unique characteristics-many are 300 - 400 years old, Thorough research and historical documentation is done before sketches are developed from detailed photographs. A Lilliput artist first carves a three-dimensional sculpture in a specially blended wax. Each tiny roof tile is placed by hand and each flower is individually hand carved, This process can take weeks or months to complete, depending on complexity. From the original wax sculpture, identical rubber molds are created. Amorphite plaster, a resin developed by David Tate is "fingered" into each mold and allowed to set. When set, the molds are carefully removed from each casting and the bases are ground smooth. Casters then delicately remove any excess plaster and dip each piece in a color wash to seal its porous surface. After drying overnight, castings are meticulously hand painted by skilled artists. Carol's Crafts maintains a large selection of Lilliput Lane sculptures representative of all collections-English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, American, and several international pieces. Our inventory also includes many sought after retired and limited production pieces.
