Chilmark Pewter - by Don Polland

Don Polland

1932 - 2003

Don Polland, like the many characters he portrayed in his sculpture, was a pioneer.

As early as 1959 he broke with tradition by executing his western sculpture in miniature scale (most of his designs are under 8" high), which made his work much more affordable, and certainly easier to display in the average home. In 1973, when Polland joined forces with Chilmark, a new era in art of the American West began, as his work was now produced in fine pewter, as well as bronze. With well over 100 individual designs to his credit.

Don has earned his place next to Remington, Russell and Fraser.

Don Polland had invested over twenty five years of his life to an art form and a body of work that has integrity and permanence.

These sculptures are from a private collection and have the certificates with them but not the original boxes.
